      Overview

A Turkish tax number (Vergi Numarası) is a unique identification number issued by the Turkish Revenue Administration (Gelir İdaresi Başkanlığı – GİB). It is required for foreigners who want to engage in financial activities such as opening a bank account, buying property, working, or conducting business in Turkey.

      • Opening a bank account
      • Buying or selling property
      • Registering a vehicle
      • Residency
      • Signing contracts (e.g., rental agreements)
      • Employment and social security registration
      • Starting a business or freelance work

      Required Documents

Foreigners need to bring the following documents to apply for a tax number:

      Valid Passport

Original and a photocopy of the passport’s identification page.

Some tax offices may accept a valid residence permit as well, but the passport is the primary document.

      Completed Application Form

Usually, the tax office provides a simple form to fill out with personal details.

The form is typically in Turkish, but staff can assist with filling it out.

      Address Information

Provide your current address in Turkey (hotel, residence, or temporary address).

Some offices may ask for proof of address, but generally, verbal or written declaration suffices.
