      Yabanci Kimlik Number

A Yabancı Kimlik Numarası (YKN) is a Foreign Identification Number issued by the Turkish government to non-Turkish citizens who are legally registered in Türkiye.
It is sometimes called a Foreigner ID Number.

      What Does It Look Like?
      An 11-digit number
      Usually starts with 99
Issued by the Göç İdaresi Başkanlığı (Directorate General of Migration Management)
      Example format:
      99XXXXXXXXX

Who Gets a Yabancı Kimlik Number?
      You receive one if you:
      Hold a Residence Permit (Ikamet)
      Have a Work Permit
      Are under Temporary Protection
      Have been granted International Protection

      What Is It Used For?
Your YKN is used for almost everything official in Türkiye:
      Opening a bank account
      Registering utilities (electricity, water, internet)
      Accessing healthcare
      Paying taxes
      Signing contracts
Logging into e-Devlet (Turkey’s government portal)
Buying property or registering a vehicle
It functions similarly to a Turkish citizen’s T.C. Kimlik Numarası, but specifically for foreigners.

      Where Do You Find It?
      You can find your YKN:
      On your Residence Permit Card
On official documents issued by migration authorities
      In the e-Ikamet system

      Important Notes
It is not the same as a tax number (Vergi Numarası), although sometimes people confuse the two.
You keep the same YKN as long as your legal status continues.
If your residence permit is cancelled, the number becomes inactive.
