What is an APP Plate?
APP (European Press Plate) is a “non-standard” plate that, unlike standard plate fonts, uses thicker, larger and more aesthetic-looking characters, but does not comply with the Highways Traffic Regulation.
Although it is more striking in appearance, its use is strictly prohibited in Turkey and it has heavy sanctions.
How much and is the APP License Plate Penalty 2026?
People who are found to have worn or used APP license plates will be fined 140,000 TL. Vehicles using APP license plates will be banned from traffic for 30 days. If the violation is repeated, drivers will pay a fine of 280,000 TL and may also face a prison sentence of up to 5 years.
A new regulation regarding non-standard license plate inspections has come into effect in Turkey. Following instructions from Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi, authorities announced that inspections conducted until April 1 will be carried out only for guidance and information purposes. During this period, drivers will not receive fines.
