Drivers Beware! “Record Traffic Fines Ahead in Turkey”

A new amendment to the Highway Traffic Law is on the way, and it could completely reshape how traffic violations are penalized in Turkey. The government has prepared a proposal that will bring record fines for dangerous driving behaviors, with some penalties reaching hundreds of thousands of lira.

Heavy Penalties for Risky Driving
According to the draft law, drivers who endanger traffic safety by weaving dangerously, known as “makas atma,” may face a fine of 180,000 TL.
Using fake license plates could result in a shocking 280,000 TL fine, while reckless acts like drifting are expected to cost 140,000 TL.
Driving without a license will carry a fine of 40,000 TL, and those caught driving with a canceled license may face a 200,000 TL penalty.
