Sharing alcohol on social media in Turkey
#1
From Cumhuriyet

Extract:
Film actor Yiğit Dören was fined 82,244 Turkish Lira for an alcohol brand appearing in photos and videos he shared on his social media account. Dören, who argued that his posts were not for advertising or commercial purposes, applied to the magistrates' court for the cancellation of the fine.

Yiğit Dören , a film actor living in Menteşe district of Muğla , appealed against the administrative fine of 82,244 Turkish Lira imposed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry's Tobacco and Alcohol Department for the appearance of an alcohol brand in his social media posts.

Dören stated that the images in question were not advertisements, but rather personal moments she shared with her friends.

The Tobacco and Alcohol Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry considered the appearance of an alcohol brand in the photos and videos published by Dören on his social media account as "alcoholic beverage advertising and promotion."
