New Regulation Introduced for Short-Term Tourist Rentals in Turkey

      From Business Turkey Today

      Extract:
100,000 TL Fine for Tourist Rentals Without a Permit in Turkey – A new regulation introduces strict penalties and a two-step inspection process for short-term tourist rentals, including fines and permit cancellation.

According to a report by Türkiye Gazetesi, Turkey has introduced strict new rules for short-term tourist rentals. Under the updated regulation, property owners who rent out homes without an official permit will face an initial warning followed by fines of up to 100,000 TL.

During the first stage of inspection, if authorities find missing documents, landlords will be given 30 days to submit them. If the documents are not completed within that period, a fine will be imposed.

But the process does not end there. Even if the paperwork is in order, the second stage involves physical inspections. Authorities will check for emergency exit routes, building rule lists, and mandatory information cards. If any of these elements are missing, property owners will have 15 days to correct the issue. If not resolved, another fine of up to 100,000 TL will be applied, followed by an additional 15-day grace period. Failure to comply after this will lead to the permit being completely revoked.

The regulation also expands its scope to include timeshare properties, which will now be subject to the same rules and inspection procedures as tourist rental homes.

In addition, new requirements make it mandatory for every property to display clearly visible information cards containing the landlord’s contact details, the building’s rules, and emergency exit routes. This aims to improve guest safety and regulatory transparency.

The inspection system will operate in two stages: document control followed by on-site inspection, ensuring that rental properties meet legal and safety standards. (gzt.com)
